Description
Goethe and Mozart, although they were close contemporaries, never met, yet it is possible to view and discuss Goethe in relation to Mozart from the more than two hundred references to the composer and his music in Goethe's diaries, letters, and documented conversations. Based on such evidence, this study is about Goethe and the role of music, particularly Mozart's music, in Goethe's life and art.
A fascinating discussion... Goethe's work with the production of Mozart's opera in Weimar is [treated in]... meticulously researched accounts of the staging problems, performance schedules, and dramaturgical improvements involved in the mounting of the Entfuhrung, Giovanni, and Die Zauberfloete.
