Description
The study of language in society is used in an attempt to gain a greater understanding of second language learning. Focusing on the findings of quantitative sociolinguistics, the author evaluates monitor theory, acculturation theory and other accounts of second language acquisition. Dennis Preston, together with Roger Shuy is also author of "The Varieties of American English".
