内容説明

This collection of papers offers an account of literature and politics over the last 30 years in the USSR and Eastern Europe, paying particular attention to the problems of censorship and political control. It addresses the paradox that heavy censorship and good literature co-exist in Eastern Europe, and also suggests a theoretical framework with which their unexpected development can be understood. Geoffrey Hosking has also written "The Russian Constitutional Experiment", "Beyond Socialist Realism" and "History of the Soviet Union". George Cushing's translations of major works of Hungarian literature have played an important part in bringing Hungarian letters to a wide international readership.
