内容説明

With the discovery of tin deposits in the Kinta District of Malaysia in the 1890s, the population increased from 4,000 to 123,000, mainly as a result of the arrival of Chinese immigrants. Kinta became the most productive alluvial tin-mining region in the world. This study of Chinese working people in Kinta explores how their lives have been affected by the economic changes of the last 100 years. The dynamics between hegemonic structural processes and the ordinary people, powerless to influence the events of history, is the major focus of the book.
