Description and Table of Contents

Description

Thailand is a nation which adheres fervently to the Theravada sect of Buddhism. A traveller encounters numerous images of the Buddha, conspicuously displayed in temples, museums, homes, and offices, and worn as amulets. The images vary considerably in style and detail, yet share characteristics that make them instantly recognizable as representations of the Buddha. This text provides an historical survey of Buddhist images from pre-Thai times to the present.

Table of Contents

  • Pre-Thai images of the Buddha
  • the Thai images.
