内容説明
Part of a series covering management techniques and strategies in local government, this book concerns management development in local authorities and is intended to provide a practical guide for local government officers and students. After examining the challenges facing local government it looks at the concept of strategic planning and what it has to offer. The authors consider some of the lessons to be learnt from past experience with corporate planning and structure planning. They also consider some of the common misgivings about strategic planning in local government. Central to the book are the chapters dealing with what a strategic plan might contain, how to get started, translating strategy into action, how strategic planning needs to relate to other aspects of strategic management, and reviewing the way forward. They draw on encouraging examples from contemporary local government and they conclude with a look at what marks out those authorities that are succeeding with strategic planning.
