Employers pay out many millions of pounds every year to dismissed employees who claim they have been "unfairly dismissed". The risks of ignorance and hasty action could arguably be reduced, if employers were to follow the advice given in this book, which is based on a multitude of decisions taken by industrial tribunals, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal, and on the ACAS Code of Practice on Discipline and Dismissal. This work book aims to explain the legal position in layman's language. It discusses in detail what is meant by misconduct, incapacity and other grounds for dismissal and gives guidance on preparing and presenting cases at tribunals. This second edition, called for only one year after publication of the first, contains some 46 new cases.
