Description

The Safety and Security Symposium held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, October 1986, was the third in the series of annual meetings organized by the UK Centre for Software Reliability. This book is the published result of the symposium which had as its theme the closely related topics of computer safety and reliability. A safe computer system should never be responsible for causing death or injury to its users or accidental damage to its environment and a secure computer system should never be responsible for the unauthorized release of information with which it has been entrusted. Both topics are rapidly expanding areas of interest for the designers of computer systems and those who seek to exploit the potential of electronic systems in critical application areas.
