内容説明

This volume offers a guide to teaching the history of science and technology to students and undergraduates. The history of science and technology is one of the most exciting subjects to have emerged recently in schools and higher education, as well as in the popular and academic media. Historians have come to appreciate the importance of discovery and invention in the modern world, while scientists have found the history of their particular discipline a useful means by which to understand its leading concepts and theories. Teachers have shown great interest in introducing students to the subject as a means of illustrating the importance of discovery and invention in the development of the modern world. "Teaching the History of Science" has been written under three broad headings: perspectives, in which the development and current state of professional history of science and its role in teaching are discussed; practice, a series of case studies presented by experienced teachers, educationalists and historians of science; and sources and resources, a listing and evaluation of the range of facilities available to teachers and lectures - including books, journals, films, local sources, societies and museums. The book is published in conjunction with the British Society for the History of Science.
