Description

Moscow's policy toward Northest Asia has undergone major changes in the past two decades. The Soviet Union and Northeast Asia explores both the historical background and recent trends in Soviet policy, emphasizing relations with Japan, China, the U.S., and the two Koreas. The study stresses the continuing importance of expanding Soviet military power during the 1970s and 1980s and upon Soviet relations with all of the powers of the region. The central concern is to find both the important changes and the continuities of Soviet policy in this vital region. Co-published with the Asia Society.
