The literature focusing on major barriers to health care of the elderly is critically reviewed in this book. Each chapter focuses on a specific problem, examining in depth the existing information on a particular area of concern. Following an explicit and rigorous methodology known as `information synthesis', contributors examine three categories of issues: elements, organization and delivery services in the long-term care system; social support programmes for the elderly; and clinical care issues and physician education.
