Description
These proceedings cover a whole range of aspects of automation in warehousing, including management issues such as the conservation of resources and the reliability of large automated warehouse systems. Four keynote speeches in the plenary sessions with AGVS-5 delegates look at trends in physical distribution technology in Europe (Walter Krieg, Digitron AG, Switzerland), Asia (Chong-Hwan Kim, Korea Servo Co Ltd., Korea), USA (Dr. J.A. White, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA) and Japan (Professor Teruo Takahashi, Waseda University, Japan), while the keynote speaker for the first individual sessions of ICAW-8, John M. Hill of Logisticon, reviewed "Warehousing in the United States-perspective 1987." Technical papers considered artificial intelligence in AS/RS, automated warehousing system design, data collection within the automated warehouse and piece picking using a carousel system. Case studies were presented from a wide variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, steel products, medical supplies and semiconductor production.
