内容説明

Since antiquity, the glassmaker has used fluorine in many ways. Fluoride glasses are materials of commerce which are being increasingly used for passive infrared optics and for the containment of corrosive fluorine compounds. In the future it is hoped that they will also be used for active infrared optics and long-distance telecommunications. This volume contains a series of essays which document the state of contemporary fluoride glass science and technology. The text is restricted to those glasses which are composed entirely of fluoride anions with metal cations. Mixed halide glasses and oxyhalide glasses, both contenders in the race for long-distance fibre optics materials, are thus excluded. The emphasis is on the heavy metal fluoride glasses discovered in 1974, but some reference is made to earlier work on other fluoride glass systems.
