Description

This selection of letters has been drawn from "The Collected Letters of Katherine Mansfield" by Vincent O'Sullivan and Margaret Scott, and aims to present the full flavour of Mansfield's style with its energetic punctuation and quirky idiosyncrasies of spelling. The letters convey an array of different moods and qualities of perception and evocation that may remind readers of Mansfield's stories. A sense of gloom arising from her tuberculosis and the knowledge of its outcome pervades many of the letters, the majority of which are to John Middleton Murry, both before and after their marriage. The volume also contains letters written to Mansfield's sister, Vera Beauchamp, Garnet Trowell, Virginia Woolf, Lady Ottoline Morrell, Frieda Lawrence, Bertrand Russell and S.S. Kotelianski.
