内容説明

The Oil Pollution Research Group of the Field Studies Council comprises a small group of scientists with particular expertise in marine and coastal ecology, chemistry and sedimentology. This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium designed to present the results of 10 years of research into the effects of oil discharges on the marine and coastal environment. The main focus for the presentations was experimental work and field surveys which had taken place at the oil port of Milford Haven, Wales. Subject matter covered in the symposium included survey and monitoring techniques, environmental impacts on intertidal and subtidal rock and sediment communities, and the fate of oil in sedimentary systems. These main themes were illustrated with case studies and the emphasis throughout was on the application of findings to forward planning and environmental management and protection. This book will be of interest to oil companies and government departments, as well as scientists working in environmental and related disciplines.
