It traces the fortunes of the major manufacturers, and relates the fluctuations of the car industry to Britain as a whole. Martin Adeney is the Industrial Editor of BBC Television News, and has previously been industrial correspondent for "The Sunday Telegraph" and labour correspondent for "The Guardian".
