内容説明

What is a Buddha and how is that condition attained? Professional Buddhist intellectuals in India devoted a good deal of time and energy to the discussion of this question, and the results of their efforts are preserved for us in texts. Among the most influential of these, the Mahayanasamgraha, was a foundational text for the Yogacara school of Buddhism, and its tenth chapter is devoted to a systematic presentation of the nature of awakening (bodhi) and the characteristics and attributes of Buddhahood. "The Realm of Awakening" translates this chapter in full, together with all the surviving Indic commentaries in their variant versions. No English translation of the Mahayanasamgraha has yet appeared, and there is no full comparative translation of the variant versions of the commentarial literature in any language.
