Description
This book presents the proceedings of the First International Workshop on Auger Spectroscopy and Electronic Structure (IWASES 1) held in Giardini Naxos-Taormina, Messina, Italy, September 10-14, 1988. The book is a useful and concise presentation of the most recent developments in Auger electron spectroscopy. Theoretical and experimental investigations of electron correlation effects and their discussion within the Cini-Sawatzky theory are emphasized. These correlation effects play an important role in many physical properties of matter such as magnetism, screening and conduction processes and electron stimulated desorption. Other contributions illustrate the use of Auger electron spectroscopy as a sensitive analytical probe of surface structure in terms of EXAFS studies. Sections of the book deal with the theory of the Auger process and electronic structure determination, Auger spectra from solid and gaseous samples, and analytical aspects of Auger electron emission. Two additional contributions discuss scanning tunneling microscopy and inverse photoemission.
