Description
"Dream Gardens of Cumbria" is a celebration of the people and gardens of the Lake District in photographs and words. Vivian Russell has explored the Lake District to produce this illustrated account of nearly 30 of the best Cumbrian gardens. The book is arranged in three parts: gardens like Hutton in the Forest, which are being actively created or restored; gardens such as Levens Hall, famous for its topiary, which are at the peak of their perfection, and places such as Wordsworth's Dove Cottage and Sizergh Castle, where the gardens of the past are being carefully preserved. The gardens range in size from tiny cottage gardens to the grand and imposing grounds of castles and National Trust properties. There are interviews with the owners, a map showing the location of each garden and a list of gardens by region giving details of public openings.
