It is but an attempt to convey to the tourist or fireside traveller something of the interest and charm of the Sudan in an unambitious form...' These modest aims, set out by the author in his introduction, belie the value of this book which provides a rare account of everyday life in a little-known country during the early years of the present century. Today, both the historian and the general reader will appreciate the value of this work which brings within the framework of a traveller's tale much information concerning Sudan, its customs and ancient traditions.
