内容説明

This is an examination of the present Conservative government and its apparent unassailability after its success in three general elections and the failure of the opposition parties. Paul Hirst assesses its current position and looks at the possible successors. This book also considers whether the period of Conservative government has led to an economic regeneration and social modernization of Britain, as it claims. It looks at the political, social and economic situation confronting an alternative government in the 1990s. As an endpiece to each chapter, the author illustrates the book's general arguments with short articles discussing specific issues currently in the public eye. Paul Hirst is the author of "Social Relations and Human Attributes" and "Law, Socialism and Democracy". He contributes to various journals including the "New Statesman and Society" and "Political Quarterly".
