Description and Table of Contents

Description

A selection of essays which look at disabling diseases from various perspectives and which are designed to show how medical expertise can be used to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from incurable disease or disability. Throughout the book the emphasis is on the physical, environmental and psychological aspects of care, placed in the context of contemporary medical practice where necessary. The caring professions are seen as having a responsiblity to help clients understand the nature of their problems and the likely effects on the whole family, and to aid adjustment so that the best decisions are made in the light of this knowledge. The book is intended to be of interest not only to doctors, in hospital or in the community, but also to members of the nursing, remedial and social work professions.
