Labour courts occupy a central role in many industrial relations systems, yet publications containing contributions by high ranking judges, presented in a comparative fashion, are rare. This volume constitutes an effort to remedy the situation and covers two very topical issues. Firstly, the issue of internal organization and functioning of labour courts is examined, and secondly, the issue of disputes concerning termination of employment. There have recently been many such disputes and the way they have been handled by the courts represents a significant element in the effectiveness of public policies on restructuring and adjustment.
