In this biography of Churchill from birth to death the author considers the soldier and foreign corresponent in India, the Sudan and South Africa, the brilliant young politician of the pre-1914 era who acted as a daring initiator of the Gallipoli and Antwerp campaigns at the start of World War I, his chequered career in the 1920s and his wilderness years in the 1930s and his years as Prime Minister. His subsequent career, in opposition and as Prime Minister for the second time, is surveyed. The author examines the private man, the journalist, historian, painter and family man. The author has written many books including "The Origins of the Labour Party", "The Challenge of Socialism", "Labour and Politics", "Modern Britain", "Britain and the Second World War" and "The Labour Governments".
