内容説明
Employing a multidisciplinary approach, "Differentiation and Function of Glial Cells" offers the latest data on the biology and pathophysiology of glial cells. This volume provides an overview of some of the most intriguing and challenging aspects in the study of neuroglial cells. Throughout the text, investigators use various experimental approaches to examine such specific topics as: whether the distinction between type-1 and type-2 astrocytes made from in vitro experiments can be extended to the brain in vivo; differentiation of bipotential glial precursors that can give rise to oligodendrocytes and type-2 astrocytes; epigenetic factors which appear to control the differentiation route taken by precursor cells in vitro; the problem of gliogenesis and possible origin of macroglial cells from radial cells; trophic and morphogenetic influences of glial cells on neurons; and glial cell-related inhibitory substances preventing neurite growth.
