The past few years have seen a remarkable growth in public and political concern about environmental issues such as the "greenhouse effect" and depletion of the ozone layer. Andrew Dobson's book explains the ideas, aims and strategies of the Green movement. He demonstrates that Green political thought is distinct from the familiar ideologies that have pervaded political life for centuries, such as socialism, liberalism and conservatism. The difference between "light-green" and "dark-green" politics is explained, and dark green politics is presented as a profound challenge to the political, economic and social consensuses that dominate the late 20th century.
