Description and Table of Contents
Description
In this new edition, the authors have taken the opportunity to strengthen and update the standard biochemistry part of the book. In particular, four new chapters have been added: Control of Metabolism, Synthesis of Macromolecules, Genetics and Immunochemistry. The opportunity has also been taken to include a number of additional appendices, particular on aspects of genetic engineering. There have been substantial advances in the understanding of the behaviour of the macromolecular components in enamel and saliva, and the way in which these and other macromolecules interact with calcium phosphate crystals. This has necessitated complete revision of the sections on the organic components of enamel, saliva and calcification. Other changes to the applied biochemical part include the addition of sections on inherited defects of oral structures and oral aspects of immunology.
