Description
This research report gives a unique and comprehensive account of the enormous progress made in the field of biological signal processing from 1971 to 1986. Part 1 deals with signal processing at the cellular level. It covers electrogenic cation transports and cardiac excitation, ion channels and behavior, and insect photoreception. Of particular interest are the new functions of Ca ions in intracellular processes. Part 2 treats the multicellular analysis of signal processing. Sensory reception, central processing and the response to external (auditory, visual, thermal) and internal (thermal, chemosensory) stimuli. Responses studied range from autonomic to behavioral responses and go as far as communication, perception and memory.
