Description

A biography of Israel Zangwill (1864-1926), the author of "Children of the Ghetto" and "Dreamers of the Ghetto." Zangwill was the originator of the "melting pot" view of American society, and adopted the ideas of assimilation and intermarriage. Udelson says that Zangwill was unable either to resolve or accept the conflict resulting from the clash of Jewish and Western values.
