内容説明
"Human consciousness" discusses recent work in philosophical psychology touching on consciousness by throwing light on a working principle, maintained by many in the field, that the first-person point of view is theoretically redundant. Preceded by an historical sketch of ways in which philosophers have approached the topic in the past, the discussion highlights a recent and radical shift away from the ego-centric perspective of Cartesian philosophy to the objective, materialistic, third-person world of the physical sciences. Dr. Hannay argues, however, that there are clear grounds for rejecting current dismissals of the importance of the concept of consciousness and maintains that this very concept is required for grasping the nature of human performance and of cognition itself.
