This series of articles written by librarians for librarians outlines the manner in which they have successfully exploited dBase in their particular environment. The intention of the book is to illustrate the wide range of library functions which are best served by locally designed applications. By understanding the wide range of library functions for which dBase can be used, it is considered that this book should provide many examples of ways of reducing costs and improving efficiency in all libraries. Uses covered range from the elementary to the expert, including such areas as archives management, bibliographics storage and retrieval, book acquisitions, budget management, cataloguing and classification, local publisher information, logging of reference questions and statistics. It is hoped that the text will serve as encouragement to the continuing exploration of dBase by all users.
