Description

A comprehensive review of the role of management in design and the role of design within management structures, covering most forms of industry from manufacturing to services. Over 40 contributors have written on topics central to a full understanding of design and design management. From a general introduction to the topic and exemplars of the role of design in three key sectors, the book moves on to examine the business context for design. After identifying the importance of the subject in short and long term business strategy, the book then considers those management infrastructures which will support such strategies most effectively. An overview follows of the design process itself and the links with the market place are explored. A major section of the book deals with project management and control (including legal protection) and this is followed by observations on innovative management practices and the impact of new technology.
