内容説明

This overview of the pharmaceutical industry and the medicinal chemicals it produces describes not only the technical and pharmacological aspects of drugs, but also their economic and social implications. Following a discussion of the economic, technical and social aspects of the industry, the book goes on to describe the 100 most widely prescribed pharmaceuticals in the USA plus many others of historic significance or which hold promise for the future. The modes of action of the drugs are outlined together with the synthetic routes by which they are made. Finally, chapters deal with drugs not widely prescribed in the USA, including prostaglandins and drugs against tropical diseases, cancer and viruses.
