Description and Table of Contents

Description

This book is designed to provide access to a variety of courses which could be of interst to potential or practising librarians and information workers. Courses on accounting, management, desk top publishing and printing are listed beside courses on information management, information science or information technology. Courses have also been selected from different types of institutions, including further and higher education, schools of library and information science and commercial organizations offering short courses. Of the hundreds of training courses available to librarians and information workers, some are central to their day-to-day skills and easily located, others are less obviously relevant and would need to be sought out if and when a training need was identified. The aim of this directory is to bring together as many of these courses as possible. It is intended for employers interested in the further education or training of their staff or employees wishing to further their careers.

Table of Contents

  • Part 1 Discussion of education and training: professional qualifications in the 1990s
  • an overview of training possibilities
  • the library and information studies curriculum for the 1990s. Part 2 Directory of courses: courses at institutions of higher and further education
  • commercial organizations offering short courses
  • courses at schools of library and information studies.
