Description and Table of Contents
Description
In 1953 the Comite International de Palegraphie resolved upon the publication of a series of lavishly illustrated catalogues of dated and datable manuscripts written in western European scripts from early medieval times to the late sixteenthcentury. The present catalogue is the third such to be produced in Great Britain, and follows the format of its predecessors, the Catalagues for the British Library and for Oxford Libraries. It contains 394 short descriptive entries of manuscripts ranging in date from c.737 to 1599, each entry illustrated by an actual-size plate of the manuscript. Each entry includes up-to-date bibliographical references. The Cataloguealso contains an Introduction which discusses among other things reckonings of time used by medieval scribes and problems encountered in dating manuscripts.
