内容説明
Containing two-thirds of the world's poorest countries, sub-Saharan Africa is scarred by deep and long-lasting economic crisis. Agriculture and industrial production has been declining, population has been rising, and standards of living have been falling. The contributors to this volume, leading development economists, look at what has gone wrong in sub-Saharan Africa and provide a set of guidelines for promoting economic recovery in Africa. The causes of African economic decline are complex and reflect the interaction of internal and external forces. The authors examine the main aspects of the problem in detail and so consider, for example, the need for greater and more effective co-operation between African states, optimal levels of aid, the role of multinational corporations, the social aspects of economic progress, and the problems of and prospects for the low-income economies. Combining theoretical and practical approaches, and using general surveys and case studies, the contributors outline the economic and social policies required to put sub-Saharan Africa back on the road to sustained development.
