内容説明

The purpose of this book is to provide researchers, engineers, managers and students with a systematic and detailed description of optical fiber transmission and its related technologies. The book includes both the theoretical and applied aspects of optical fibers, semiconductor lasers, optical devices and optical communication systems in which world-wide interest is rapidly expanding. The book provides not only a basic knowledge of the elements making up optical fiber transmission, but also of the total system concept of optical fiber transmission systems. It also includes various mathematical formulae as well as a comprehensive review of rapidly advancing optical technologies, making it of particular use to students in these fields. At the same time, engineers will find the indispensable practical data the book presents useful in their design work. In particular, it includes detailed explanations of the most advanced technologies being developed in Japan, such as ultra-low-loss fibers, long wavelength semiconductor lasers and integrated optics.
