Deidre Le Faye has edited this completely revised and expanded edition of W. and R.A.Austen-Leigh's 1913 biography of Jane Austen, long out of print but still widely regarded as the definitive life of the author. This detailed account of Austen's life, family background and literary career is based on the mass of original material among the Austen family papers and in other public and private archives, much of which has come to light since the first edition of this work. The book is illustrated with 16 plates, and includes a chronology, family trees, and a comprehensive index.
