This catalogue of the works of Sir William Walton (1910-83) has been completely revised, updated and extended since the first edition appeared in 1977. It aims to be a comprehensive source of musical and documentary information relevant to Walton's life and work. Full details are given of dates of composition, circumstances of a work's commission, instrumentation, first performance, publication, the location of autograph manuscripts, critical comment and significant recordings. Appended are notes in the form of commentaries about the background to a work, commissions which did not come to fruition and relevant biographical information drawn from original documentary sources, especially letters.
