内容説明

In the past 20 years since chromosome banding techniques came into general use, they have become essential tools in all fields of research concerned with chromosomes. Just as important, however, are the insights that banding has provided the organization of chromosomes. "Chromosome Banding" is a comprehensive work providing a source of methods and understanding of the mechanisms and biological significance of banding. After an historical introduction and a general account of chromosome organization, each class of banding technique is considered in turn, with a description of the methods, the mechanisms behind the methods, their biologial significance and their applications. Separate chapters cover the subjects of banding heteromorphisms and evolutionary studies, and the book concludes with a consideration of the implications of banding for chromosome organization.
