Description

Ranging from Louis XVI's succession to the throne in 1774 to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and Napoleon's subsequent exile in St Helena, this single volume comprises a first-hand account of one of the major political eras of modern history. A colourful mosaic of the events of the day emerge through the 23 chronologically arranged chapters, each of which comprises an introduction, a chronology of the period on which the chapter focuses and a wealth of contemporary literature. The entire book features some 750 quotes, taken from contemporary speeches, letters, diaries, newspaper articles and memoirs, each averaging around 100 words. There are 250 cameo biographies together with approximately 100 contemporary illustrations carefully researched and reprinted to aid the text.
