Description

The purification and cloning of haematopoietic growth factors - erythropoietin, GM-CSF, G-CSF, M-CSF and IL-3 - have opened up new therapeutic vistas in haematology and transfusion medicine. This important text examines the molecular aspects and clinical applications of major haematopoietic growth factors and newer interleukins. The book explains how physicians can manipulate the physiologic function of bone marrow along with certain growth factors to augment the activity of circulation leukocytes. Contributors to the volume document the use of recombinant haematopoietic growth factors to enhance haematopoietic cell proliferation in situations where it is deficient. It also explains how these growth factors may also be useful even when marrow function is normal, including such cases as autologous blood donors where increased demands on marrow function are anticipated.
