内容説明
A collection of papers based on a meeting held by the Society for General Microbiology in which current understanding of the immune responses generated in each infection is described and the dark areas of ignorance signposted. It starts with a chapter written for non-immunologists and is followed by descriptions of eight virus systems of importance to human disease. Possible mechanisms by which immune responses are expressed or suppressed are discussed in regard to the modulation of MHC antigens by gamma interferon. The variety of responses and the apparent lack of any communality between infections makes clear the problems facing any rational approach to the manufacture of vaccines. Several topics are covered, including influenza, polio, hepatitis B and demyelinating encephalitis.
目次
- The immune system - an update for virologists, Jean-Louis Virelizier
- regulation by interferon of the immune response to viruses, D.J.Maudsley et al
- humoral immune response to poliovirus, P.D.Minor
- recognition of viral antigens by cytoxic T lymphocytes, A.J. McMichael et al
