Description
Containing essays by leading investigators in Europe and North America, this volume offers an authoritative examination of the biochemistry, pathophysiology and therapeutic use of EFAs. While it scrutinizes the clinical benefits of both types of EFAs, omega-6 and omega-3 derived from linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid respectively, it highlights the effectiveness of the much-neglected omega-6. In order to underscore the importance of n-6 EFAs, the book characterizes the functions of EFA in normal human physiology. These functions include roles in structure of cellular membranes, in the formation of prostanoids and leukotrienes, and in the transport and disposal of cholesterol.
