内容説明

The contributors to this volume examine the political questions raised by the concept of the Single European Market, and its likely impact. The idea of the Single European Market originally seemed to indicate a process of deregulation and political disengagement that would leave market forces supreme. More recent developments, however, suggest that its introduction is an intensely political process, and that the recent emergence of the "social dimension" raises the possibility of a new Europe-wide agenda of social politics. The contributors to "The Politics of 1992" who include Lord Cockfield, Francois Duchene and John Pinder, consider the conflicts generated by this juxtaposition of opposing strategies, looking back at the initiatives which led to the plan for a Single European Market, as well as considering the possible outcomes.
