Description

This report proposes a strategy and timetable for the implementation of the ECU as a tool for achieving European monetary unity following the completion of the single European market in 1992. The study discusses the macro economic implications and outlines the advantages of the ECU and also considers the need for a credible announcement that the ECU should be the single currency. Strategies for overcoming obstacles to the use of the ECU are discussed.
