Description

This major reference book presents a wealth of statistical information on Soviet society that has only recently become available in the era of glasnost. Drawing on primary sources in the Russian language, it provides a range of statistical information on hitherto 'hidden' aspects of the USSR. Although comparable data has long been available in most high income countries, the Soviet time-series are appearing in print either for the first time or after a gap of many years. The book represents an important landmark in understanding social trends in the USSR since 1945.
