This is a practical bench manual for junior postgraduates training in haematology and for MLSOs (Medical Laboratory Scientific Officers). It provides a distillation of laboratory haematology. Each blood test is described in detail and accompanied by an explanation of the principle involved, its clinical significance, causes of error, interpretation of results and the advantages and limitations of the method. This approach makes it ideal for junior staff and for more senior staff needing information on unfamiliar tests. This edition has been fully updated to take account of developments since 1984 (previous edition published) and there are additional sections on: reference ranges and normal values; laboratory organization; quality assurance; differential leucocyte count; leucocyte cytochemical and immunological techniques.
