Description
Several times a year people in positions of influence from many countries and from diverese professional backgrounds attend international conferences at Wilton Park. "Wilton Park Papers", are substantive reports on proceeding and other papers related to these important and topical conferences. A number of internal and external factors have coincided to underpin new economic strength and prosperity in south-east Asia. Although the balance between the superpowers is probably more favourable for the region than it has ever been, the balance of power still remains a concern for many countries. Currently, the most important and contentious relationship within the region is that between south-east Asia and Japan and this is one of the issues examined in this paper.
