Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book is concerned with the social factors that shape the nature of theory and research traditions in psychology. It presents a broad treatment of the construction of theory and knowledge in science and philosophy with particular emphasis on psychological thinking. The authors emphasize "evolution knowledge". The development of a research tradition is dependent on variation and selection concomitant with culture. Justifying the current "state of art" should be in terms of the selective processes through which it has arisen, not necessarily from first principles in "absolute" terms. Du Preez discusses theory and research across behaviourism, psychoanalysis, phenomenology, cognitive psychology and many other psychological areas, placing them in their socio-philosophical content.
